Field Days For a Cause: Where Our 5% Is Going This Year
At Throwback, we bring back the best parts of being a kid — high-fives, friendly competition, and the simple joy of playing together.
Why We're Camp People This Year
This May through June 15, when you book a Throwback event, we'll donate 5% of your event's revenue to Experience Camps — a national nonprofit that sends grieving kids to a week of overnight summer camp, completely free.
Book by June 15; your event itself can happen anytime. Field day, color war, scavenger hunt, anything we offer.
A note from Helena, on our team:
Camp has been a big part of my life for a long time, and Experience Camps especially — it's where I've spent a week the past three summers, volunteering as an in-cabin counselor with girls who've lost a parent or sibling. I get them because I was and am one of them, having lost my own mom when I was nine.
The program runs across eight states, with year-round programming to keep kids connected between summers. The kids go for free. The staff are all volunteers. What happens there is hard to summarize — it's silly and tender, joyful and challenging, and the growth I see in the kids over one week is honestly shocking. Last summer I was a College League "Dean" (essentially a Color War captain), leading one of four teams in a week-long competition across camp. Our team won (#brag). The same kids screaming their lungs out at tug-of-war can also speak about their person and their loss with a clarity that humbles me. Watching them come back year after year and grow into that language — and feeling, tangibly, how much we volunteers can change a kid's life — I don't know if anything in my life so far has felt more important.
Being there always makes me wonder how my life would have been different if I'd had it as a kid.
Why we're doing this
Throwback was built on the idea that play brings people together — that it breaks down walls and lets us be ourselves. Experience Camps is built on the same idea, applied to the hardest thing a kid can carry. Pairing the two felt obvious.
So: book an event. Have some fun with your team. Know that 5% of it is helping send a kid to a week where, for once, they aren't the only one in the room who gets it. 🎉
